Oxford Junior League Match 2, Banbury

After a summer of soaring temperatures it was rather a shock to the system to head to Banbury in the drizzle and cold, but the weather failed to dampen the team spirits and there were wins aplenty.

Highlight of the day was a new club record set by Lily Martin, U13, who threw the shot 9.78m (G1), previous record of 9.67m was set in 1998. Not content with this Lily also took victory in the B string javelin. It proved a good throwing day for OCAC as Maisie Kavanagh won U13 A string javelin, B string discus and B string shot. Victories in the field continued for U15’s Annie Sutcliffe A string javelin; Lily Peach made a clean sweep in B string javelin, shot and discus; Jess Walter won U17 B string shot and U13 girls A string long jump was won by Annie Jonkers.

There were plenty of PB’s but less first places on the track, nonetheless victories came from Annie Jonkers, U13 100m A string, Eugenia Mutero U15 200m B string, Emily Haines-Gray U15 A string 300m, Georgie Bristow U15 A string hurdles, Annie Sutcliffe U15 B string hurdles and Amy Shaler U15 1500m A string.

The U15 girls relay team put the icing on the cake at the end of a successful day of athletics as they were awarded 1st place in an extremely tight relay.

The boys, affected by holidays, were few in number, but put in some good performances, including U13 Jonathon Davies winning A string discus with a G3 throw of 20.46m. In U15 Moses Sadler ran 12.5 to win B string 100m. The U15 boys long jump was a clean sweep for Oxford City, with Roshan Mowat jumping 5.24 (G4) to win the A string and Moses taking victory in the B string. Roshan continued his winning form with another G4 performance to win the A string high jump. It was a successful day also for Connor Jones, U17, with a trio of wins in 200m B string race, A string shot and B string long jump.

Team placings at the end of the match put both U13 girls and U15 girl’s teams in the lead with comfortable margins, while the U17’s came fourth. The U13 boys finished 4th, U15’s 3rd and U17’s 2nd.

Quadkids continued their success with individual victories for Bathie Faye (U9), Jessica Tosti (U9) and Izzy Haines-Gray (U11) and a team win for the U11 quartet, Izzy H-G, Remie Doring-Mason, Sienna Hardy and Eva Whitfield.

The final league match takes place at Horspath on 9th September where it would be great to see all teams out in force.
